Music at the Mead Hall in collaboration with We Låve Rock are happy to invite you to an inaugural “Vikings & Victorians” Mead Hall event that will take place over two days on September 6-7, 2024. The event will consist of three concerts:
Friday, September 6th (evening): Victorians! Scenes from Clive Nolan’s Musicals will bring to life full costume extracts from “She”, “Alchemy” and “King’s Ransom” with a taste of Clive’s forthcoming musical “The Mortal Light” performed by the Caamora Theatre Company artists and Caamora Norway Chorus.
Saturday, September 7th (afternoon): Clive Nolan Unplugged will feature music from Clive’s vast symphonic rock repertoire, including songs from Strangers On A Train, Shadowland, Arena and other projects, performed by the Caamora Company soloists and guest instrumentalists.
Saturday, September 7th (evening): Vikings! “SONG OF THE WILDLANDS”. The premiere of Clive Nolan’s epic interpretation of the Old English literary saga of the Viking warrior Beowulf. The performance will feature the original soloists, key instrumentalists, and Caamora Norway Chorus.
This performance will be preceded by a talk on the history and culture of Vikings by acclaimed archaeologist, author, and TV presenter Mark Olly. We will also listen to Professor Christopher Monk (the original translator of “Song of the Wildlands” chorus lyrics into Old English) revealing history and anecdotes behind the story of “Beowulf”.
The event will be concluded with an afterparty, featuring a performance from the Cheltenham based rock ukulele band, Frankenstein’s Lobster (Clive might be joining the band for one evening only!)
The weekend will also offer an opportunity to get involved in Viking and Victorian games, as well as meet musicians and members of the cast, get a commemorative photo taken or an album signed.
Additionally, ticketholders will receive souvenir packages (a souvenir bag, a commemorative programme and a laminate), as well as tokens for food and drink available on site and included in the ticket price.
During the weekend, food and drink will also be available for purchase, together with an array of merchandise, music souvenirs and crafts.
